Pacific Time and the previous-day trap
Los Angeles uses Pacific Standard Time (UTC−8) or Pacific Daylight Time (UTC−7). New York is usually three hours ahead, with brief exceptions during clock-change mornings. The difference from Tokyo changes when Los Angeles enters or leaves daylight saving.
Morning appointments in East Asia often fall on the previous date in Los Angeles. Keep the date visible when scheduling a broadcast or call; a correct hour attached to the wrong day is still the wrong appointment. PST is the winter offset, not a year-round substitute for Pacific Time.
Upcoming clock changes in Los Angeles
- Clocks move back 60 minutes: 02:00 → 01:00.UTC−7 → UTC−8 · 09:00 UTC
- Clocks move forward 60 minutes: 02:00 → 03:00.UTC−8 → UTC−7 · 10:00 UTC
Moving forward skips local times; moving back repeats them. For a time within the repeated hour, TimeTravel lets you select the earlier or later occurrence.
